What We've Accomplished

The New Hampshire Health Care Workforce Coalition has been working since 2018 to address systemic health care workforce shortages that lead to delays in accessing care.

Here's What We've Accomplished Over the Years

2018

The Coalition developed a package of solutions to the health care workforce shortage, including $6.5 million in investments in the State Loan Repayment Program, the #1 tool for recruiting and retaining providers in rural and underserved areas; the implementation of 3.1% across-the-board Medicaid rate increases; investments in telehealth as a resource to expand access to care and help clinicians work more efficiently; the implementation of online background checks to make it easier for NH businesses including Community Health Centers to hire qualified, interested employees; among many others.

The Coalition worked to pass a bill that provides funding to increase Medicaid reimbursement rates. These increased rates help health care providers recruit and retain more workers and treat more patients in need.

While these successes are an important step in the right direction, there is still more work to do to grow our health care workforce, especially in rural and underserved communities. In 2025, the Coalition is supporting SB 244, which includes the creation of a public-private Health Care Workforce Recruitment and Retention Hub, pipeline investments in the New Hampshire Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), and Medicaid reimbursement rate increases, among many other important provisions. Learn More About CHWs - Successes from 2024

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are important members of the healthcare, public health, and human service workforce, serving as a bridge between community members in need and the services that can help improve their health and quality of life.

CHWs can be patient navigators, care coordinators, case managers, recovery coaches, outreach workers, or peer mentors. They can be employed by social service agencies, healthcare providers, schools, community organizations, municipalities, and a variety of other organizations.
